The big news lately is that I have completely revamped how my live performances work on stage. If you've seen me perform over the years, you can see the difference with a glance at this photo taken by my friend Judy Belknap: gone are the bulky black boxes that used to surround me, replaced by the slim columns of Bose speakers, an innovative new approach to sound reproduction. The high and mid tones are produced by the columns, the deep bass tones are produced by the small but powerful subwoofer boxes, and it's all powered by amps built into the stands for the columns. It's a cleaner, leaner setup but the best part of the change is in the sound, which is beautifully rich with crystal clear high tones and bold but clean bass. This new technology allows me to play at a lower volume but to fill the room better. You have to hear it to believe it.
Judy also is finding me lots of weekend gigs in the Butte, Montana, area, which has meant that I've had to spend a whole lot of time at her lovely home in Butte, darn the luck. Anyway, for you readers from the Southwest Montana area, keep your eyes open for my appearances at local clubs. I've also completed a new original song. Inspired by the pampered fellow pictured at right, Judy's Llasa Apso named Zuzu, the song, a fun country tune, is called "Treat Me Like A Dog." I'm hoping someday that Judy will pamper me the same way, but so far, no luck. Anyway, if you want to hear an MP3 version of the song, click here.
I've recently completed a new website for a great Creole restaurant in San Luis Obispo, California, called Bon Temps Creole Cafe. Owner and my brother-in-law Phil Lang has created a wonderful recreation of a cafe in the Big Easy. And I've created for him a site that includes not only a built-in map to find the restaurant, but also displays his complete menus. And the home page also includes an original song I wrote for Phil. I'm also still playing at Fairmont Hot Springs. Once again, Fairmont, in addition to its wonderful pools and restaurants, is an entirely smoke-free facility, even in the lounge.
